Mixes: p a r a n o i a

I freaking love Halloween. In fact, it’s like Christmas for me. I love decorating and carving pumpkins and roasting pumpkin seeds and buying candy for the trick or treaters and of course I can’t forget all the fun Halloween baking. Add all the horror movies as well as the scary books and the childhood favorite Halloween movies and it all adds up to 100% fun! So what better way to celebrate Halloween then making a brand new Halloween playlist? However, I didn’t want your typical Halloween mix. Don’t get me wrong, I love Thriller as much as the next person. But how many playlists do we need with Thriller on it? Aren’t there already like 15,000 of them? So I wanted to go another way.

Creepy.

As in, if you were walking home from work at night and any of these songs came on, you’d instantly think you were in a horror movie. I wanted to try and invoke the spine-tingling, haunted feeling, as if you were afraid you may have just seen something move out of the corner of eye, only to realize that there’s actually nothing there. *shivers* Gotta love those chills.

I hope you enjoy this creeptastic mix!

Thankful.

thankful

Sometimes we take the good in our lives for granted and when things go bad, sometimes it’s hard to see that good. I know that when life gets hard, like it’s been at work for me, I make myself remember the things I have and all that I am thankful for so I can remember why I deal with the crap, for lack of a better word. And while American Thanksgiving may still be over a month away, and Canadian Thanksgiving may be behind us, it’s never a bad time to count your blessings and think about what you are thankful for.

  • I Am Thankful For my two closest girl friends, Irene and Rachel. They mean the world to me, and no matter what happens in life, I know that I can count on them. They have listened to my problems, held my hand when I’ve cried and hugged me whenever I needed it. And the three of us have become great friends. We always have a blast and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for us individually and together.
  • I Am Thankful For my adorable kitten Adonis. He is the one of the sweetest kittens I’ve ever had and also super independent. I love that he comes up to me to demand snuggles or to lick my cheek and nose and yet is more than happy to spend hours by himself playing and resting in silly places. He makes me happy and his deep purr tells me I make him happy too.
  • I Am Thankful For my boyfriend C and his sister. No matter what may happen in the future between us, I’m glad that I met him because he is the first boyfriend I’ve had that has never cheated or lied or treated me badly and I love spending time with both him and his sister. Our Sunday breakfast tradition was easily the highlight of my summer.
  • I Am Thankful For my job because despite the stress and physical pain it causes, I truly enjoy what I do. I just wish that I could just concentrate on my work and not have to deal with any of the politics. I enjoy the money that it gives me and the freedom that that money gives me.
  • I Am Thankful For the Pacific Northwest and all the beauty that it holds. There is not a day that passes that I am not surprised by the sights here in the grand PNW. I thank my lucky stars for the fact that I moved here. And speaking of stars…
  • I Am Thankful For the sun, the moon and the stars for the warmth, light and protection that that give me.
  • I Am Thankful For books because there is nothing better than curling up under the covers with a great book and lovely scented candle flickering nearby.
  • I Am Thankful For chai tea because it is delicious warm or cold and helps me forget my resentment towards the fact that I can no longer have coffee. And the scent of it? Perfection. I have become addicted to the smell of cardamom and nutmeg and ginger. Delicious.
  • I Am Thankful For hot baths, especially when scented with lemon and rosemary.
  • I Am Thankful For my life, because through the good and through the bad, through the illnesses and the perfect days, this life is mine. No matter what happens, I’m thankful to be alive because each day brings a new lesson and the horrors that I have faced have made me stronger and more resilient in the end and every happy moment fulfills me and allows me to pass on those feelings to others.
  • I Am Thankful For you, my fellow bloggers and readers because you give up some of your time to read my inane ramblings and leave your wonderful comments. And I am so thankful for your words and your visits. They mean the world to me, truly.

What are you thankful for? Leave a comment and let me know!

+ Reading: In The Unlikely Event by Judy Blume, which I borrowed from my friend Irene and also Deadlocked by Charlaine Harris one of the last few books in the Southern Vampires (True Blood) series.

+ Listening: I’ve been listening to a lot of Post Modern Jukebox. I discovered them when I made the playlist for my birthday party. Basically, the group takes modern songs and recreates them (and sometimes adds dances) using various other themes. Such as a Chicago style Single Ladies. My favorites are Seven Nation Army as New Orleans style jazz and a Roaring Twenties version of Bad Romance.

Irene & I Rachel & I

+ Contemplating: How lucky I am to have these two women in my life. I’ve been given a second chance with my friends Irene and words cannot explain how lucky I feel. I love you. I won’t let you down. As for Rachel, I’m lucky I found her. At the very least, my job led me to a wonderful coworker, friend AND roommate. (Why do I always hold my mouth weird in photos?!)

+ Learning: People change. They can change for the worse, or for the better. Sometimes people do stupid, shitty things that they never thought they’d do and and don’t know why they do them. And yet, they can move beyond that and never do those things again. Give them chances. You won’t always be let down.

+ Awaiting: Going to a corn maze with my ladies. The Port Gamble Ghost Conference. Halloween. Autumn Baking. Holidays. STAR WARS.

+ Purchasing: All the Star Wars things. I’ve purchased 4 brand new Star Wars socks (three of which feature my husband, Darth Vader) as well as a pair of gorgeous Darth Vader earrings that are shown above. Heck. I even bought Star Wars toys for my kitten Adonis!

+ Creating: Redoing the paint job on an end table. Turning our living room into a palette of earth colors. Homemade sprinkles. Haikus. In fact, I’ve been keeping a haiku journal.

+ Coveting: This Harry Potter Related Candle. Cedarwood, vanilla, lemon and fireplace? Oh yes! I love nerdy things that aren’t overtly nerdy (but then I also love overtly nerdy things too). Speaking of nerdy, I’m a huge lover of the early 90’s show Twin Peaks (which was filmed & took place in Washington) and I came across this pillow on etsy. gosh, how I love that site!

+ Watching: I’ve been binging big time on some American Horror Story: Freakshow, Tremors 5 and of course, iZombie. I freaking loved Veronica Mars and when I heard Rob Thomas was doing iZombie I was all over it.

+ Happymaking: Autumn. Visits with my friend Irene (which needs to happen more often). Buying washi tape. Writing letters (anyone want a card/postcard/letter?!). Apple cider everything. Cuddling my kitten Adonis, rank kitten farts and all.

What are you currently up to? Any new books or movies you’re watching? New fashions that you’re coveting? I’d love to know all about them.
