Tuneage Tuesday #3

I absolutely love music. I can’t go through a day easily without it. Even at work (at least with my early shifts) I’ll have one of three music apps on my phone playing before the store opens. While working on a blog or even writing in my journal, I have to listen to one of my several playlists on itunes (playlists are the best things ever) or on 8tracks. Because of my love of music, I plan on sharing one song a week here on my blog. Either something I’ve always loved or a new song I’ve recently discovered.

Bloody Mary (Nerve Endings) – Silversun Pickups
“If we can stay here long enough
We can play with Bloody Mary
Say her name into the dark
Activate our nerve endings.”

I discovered Silversun Pickups (a Los Angeles alternative rock band) about six years ago, right after my mother passed away. I was going through a horribly dark time. I couldn’t follow along with any shows. I’d re-read the same line if I tried to read. Movies left me empty. But music, I could turn it up and either sing along or just let my mind tune out and not miss anything. At the time, Lazy Eye was constantly on the air. I LOVED that song. Since then, I’ve collected three of their cd’s and Bloody Mary has become my favorite song of theirs. It’s a great song to sing out loud while cooking or just cleaning up. I also love to blast it when showering :D

Happiness Is Overrated – The Airborne Toxic Event
“I’m sorry, I nearly lost my head
But you know those words that you said
They get stuck here in my head
And this feeling I dread, it makes me wish I was dead
Or just alone instead, I’ll be alone instead
I don’t need anyone in this bed”

I discovered The Airborne Toxic Event (a Los Angeles indie rock band) about three years ago when I was living outside of Pittsburgh with a friend of mine. I’d heard “Sometime Around Midnight” several times on the radio, but it was my friend and roommate T, who really got me interested in the band. Since then, I’ve seen them live and have a couple of their cd’s. They are a great band to turn up and dance out your frustrations to or just unwind with a good book to.

Crystalised – The XX
“Things have gotten closer to the sun
And I’ve done things in small doses
So don’t think that I’m pushing you away
When you’re the one that I’ve kept closest”

I discovered The XX (a British indie pop band) about two years ago when a friend introduced them to me. (We’re not friends anymore. In fact, I only knew him about 9 months and he turned out to be a truly horrible person. But he had some great taste in music.) The first song I ever heard by them was called Islands and I instantly fell in love with their music. They are the perfect soundtrack to a long, lazy day of writing or for relaxing at the end of a long day.
